The eighth day of the 23rd Winter Olympic Games and memorable moments and records have already been recorded that will forever remain in the history of the institution.

Starting with the departure of the Olympic flame on 24 October 2017 from Greece for an impressive torch relay that lasted 101 days, covering 2,018 kilometres, with 7,500 torchbearers representing 75 million people. residents of Korea, this year’s Winter Olympics confirm once again the unique ability of sport to build bridges of peace, breaking down those differences that can be overcome.

The Olympic torch and its torchbearers traveled by various means of transportation, including a boat on Hansando Island, a sailboat on the Baengmagang River in Buyeo, a water cable car in Yeosu, a steam train in Gokseong Train Village, a pedal boat on the east coast of Samcheok and a yacht in Busan Metropolitan, culminating in the transportation of the torch by robot to Jeju and Daejeon.

The journey of the Olympic flame was completed on 9 February 2018, during the spectacular opening ceremony, where, through a fairy tale starring five children, the past met the future, tradition met technology and mythology met history. The 2018 Winter Olympics thus sent a clear message for world peace through an extravaganza of colour and technology.
